The network is not present or started windows 2003

There has been a lot of discussion over the years about how many machines should run the computer browser service. All the Microsoft documents on this are pretty old, since it is an NT legacy application.

If browstat shows there are three backup browsers I can't think of any reason to enable the browser service on any more servers. That should be plenty for a single segment. We really need to know how this server is set up. If it is a domain member, it should show up in the domain browse list. If it is in a workgroup it should still show up, but in the workgroup.

Are all machines in the same network segment no routers between machines? Bill - All the other machines and servers are on the same segment and there are no routers between the machines. Update: Jorge Mederos mentioned in the post above that Computer Browser service should be enabled, so I thought I would go ahead and give it a shot I have done it before and it didn't work. After enabling that service, the server did show up on the Network, but when I checked this morning, it is not there.

You may want to consider abondoning the "browsing" list concept. During the past ten years, the browse list has consistently been problematic for many organizations. If you notice, the computer browser service is now configured to disabled by default Vista, 7, From my experience, it has not work well on networks with a variety of operating systems on multi-segmented networks. Anyway, toggled the value and all sorted. Hi, I have a similar problem.

I can ping my server, access shared resources, but i cant seem to find my server in the network folder on any workstation. What I find even more strange is if i restart the server I can see it in the list, but after about minutes it disappears again. In the event viewer i keep getting Event ID: error. They will not admit they have a problem, so I no longer use any of their products. I had been a loyal user of their products for years. I recommend you disable all McAfee utilities, until they get their act together. Brooks Guest. That Mcafee internet security might have changed the dns setting and it is now pointing at the wrong place.

If the DNS entry is pointing back at your own machine, then it is definitetly wrong. As far as the browsing the network, that could be several things, Make sure that the the Workstation and Computer Browser services are running and are set to automatically start on bootup.

As an aside, also avoid Norton's Personal Firewall when using Windows It changes a setting that can make your pc crash when trying to change permissions remotely on other computers and uninstalling does not correct the problem. I tried it twice on clean installs and the same thing happened both times.
