100 schools planting program

Together, we are working to help this generation of environmental stewards understand the natural world around them - and why it is so important to conserve it. While it is essential for students today to learn and understand the natural environment, we believe it's just as important to get outside and get your hands in the dirt! That's why we've taken the initiative of helping schools, near and far, set up their very own tree planting events in their local communities. We'll set you up by getting you in touch with an appropriate point of contact and teach you all the tricks to get trees in the ground that flourish for years to come!

With this program we want to teach students the role trees and reforestation have in creating a healthier, more stable climate , and inspire them to take positive action against deforestation and environmental degradation. We have designed our lessons, modules, and activities to get kids talking the talk and walking the walk. Our unique tools fortify our school programs to ensure that students are having fun while learning.

Fruity schools Africa team leader Kennedy Odoyo said, the partnership with the Slovak Embassy is a good start, as they are keen on reaching out to the European Union if the first phase is successfully implemented. Every year for the last 10 years, schools have been participating in tree planting days, but the percentage has never been attained.

The reason is because as the trees grow, at some point they are cut down for timber and firewood. Odoyo said the reason they chose fruit trees is because they are hardly, a source of food and in the future, the surplus can be sold. Expansive lands Additionally, Odoyo noted that most of the public schools have big lands which can be converted to small forests and orchards.

According to Odoyo, this will also help the government to protect school land from being grabbed, adding that fruits add the value of the land. Slovak Ambassador to Kenya Katarina Zuffa Leligdonova, said it is time to reflect on the effects of climate change and challenges such as food insecurity and look for ways to reduce and alleviate them. When students plant tree seedlings they can discover the structure and function of trees while building their awareness about conservation. As the trees mature they can serve as an ongoing living laboratory for young people to learn from. The experience can help students make informed decisions about the conservation and use of natural resources.
